Cracked Nipples During Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is a learned skill which could take some time to be able to do it perfectly.
Many mothers suffer from nipple pain while they breastfeed, but all this pain vanishes after few weeks when their babies can attach well to their breasts. In rare cases, pain continues after the first weeks.
And as the most common cause of nipple cracking is baby’s inability to self-attach during the feeding process. So, we offer you some tips & pieces of advice that can help reduce nipple cracking & pain.
 
Before Breastfeeding:
 
When your baby shows the first signs of hunger, breastfeed him immediately before he starts to cry.
Have some rest before you feed your baby.
Gently massage your breasts to help in milk flowing.
 
During Breastfeeding:
 
Try different feeding positions till you find the most comfortable one for you & your baby.
In cases of severe pain, you can put one of your fingers in front of your baby’s mouth and gently move him away till pain vanishes & you became able to breastfeed again.
 
After Breastfeeding:
 
Make sure there are no visible marks on your nipples such as red marks or lines.
Do not wear your bra until your nipple is dry & cleaned well.
