Caring for babies is so much fun, but it's accompanied with some sleep deprivation and irregular sleep for both of the baby and his mother. In Ramadan, every mum needs enough rest and sleep before it’s time for Suhor so that she’ll be able to prepare a special meal and stay up after fajr to perform prayers.
In the first few months after birth, the baby can adjust his own sleep pattern. As he grows older, this pattern may change, making it difficult to handle at night. Here are some tips that will help you set your baby's sleep and let you have a peaceful night.
Watch Out For Signs Of Tiredness
When your baby is tired, he’ll show some signs that he wants to sleep like:
-
Rubbing eyes
-
Yawning
-
Looking away from you
-
Fussy or cranky
Don’t wait until your baby is so tired before taking him to bed. This will make it difficult for him to fall asleep or stay asleep.
Set His Sleep Patterns
Since a baby is born, he should be used to sleeping at night and waking up in the morning.
During the day, keep things stimulating and active. Try to keep him awake after feeding. It’s ok if he sleeps in the middle of the day. Kids need to nap from time to another.
Separate Feeding From Sleeping
After one month, try to avoid letting him sleep while feeding, or sleep in a rocky bed. If he sleeps during feeding stop and put him in his bed.
Some people give their babies heavy meals and overfeed them so that baby will sleep faster. This makes him uncomfortable and causes irregular sleep.
Don’t wake him up to feed him
After he’s two months avoid waking him up to feed if his weight and growth rate are normal. If you feed him properly and give him enough nutrients you won’t need to wake him up at night to feed him.
These are some cases when you should wake him up to feed him:
-
If he is between 0-2 months
-
If he sleeps most of the time in the morning, he shouldn’t stay without feeding more than 4 hours at night.
Finally, patience is the key to dealing with kids. Try not to over expect results which might cause frustration. If he suddenly changes his sleep patterns watch for other signs that he’s ill or infected.
