Prepare Your Home for the Newcomer

Prepare Your Home for the Newcomer
Among the important pre-labor preparations is preparing your house to be ready to receive your newborn by baby-proofing it to ensure the baby's safety and protection. Here are some helpful tips:
You have to make sure that your baby's crib is safe. Remove any pillows, blankets or stuffed animal toys from your baby's crib as they may cause suffocation.
Put emergency phone numbers next to all the home phones to be immediately available and within reach when needed.
Cover all electrical outlets.
Make sure all cords are kept out of reach of your child.
Proof all furniture and electric appliances so they cannot be pulled down by your baby.
If you have staircases inside the house, install plastic safety gates or barriers to keep the baby out of unsafe areas.
Install safety latches and locks to all doors, toilet covers and drawers.
Cover all pointy and sharp edges of furnitures like tables.
Store all the medicines, cleaning and cosmetic products and any toxic substances out of reach of your baby.
Remove any small items that your baby could swallow such as coins, pins and small batteries.
Make sure house plants are kept out of reach of your child.
If you have a pet, keep an eye on your baby when it is around it in the beginning as pets need some time to adjust and adapt to the presence of a baby in the house.
