When Should I Introduce Solids?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting solids any time around 4-6-months old. Before that age, infants don’t have the physical ability to swallow food.

 

How To Tell If He’s Ready for Solids?

There are some signs that show that your baby is ready to eat and swallow. Most of them appear at 4 months age. Some of these signs are:

Curiosity about food. You might that your little one keeps watching adults when they eat, or he’s trying to reach out to the food.

He can sit. When a baby is able to sit upright when you leave him on the high chair or let him sit on the floor.

His weight. When his weight is double his birth weight, it might be a sign that he needs to move to the next step.

 

What Kind Of Food Should I Start With?

It’s best to start with pureed single-ingredient recipes. Some suggestions are pureed sweet potatoes, bananas, peaches, pears.

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests starting with iron-rich foods, as the iron stores start to diminish at about 6 months.
