How to Care for Your Baby's Fingernails and Toenails
As your baby's fingernails grow fast, it would be better to file them twice to thrice a week. The toenails, however, do not grow at the same fast pace so you may trim them only twice a month.

Regardless of which nail care tools you prefer to use, you have to be aware of the right size for your baby that would allow you best control. Files are usually the safest to use to avoid accidentally cutting your baby's skin.

Helpful Tips for Easy Nail Filing and Trimming:

File the baby's nails immediately after shower when they are softer.
When the baby is asleep the muscles are more relaxed, which makes it easier for the filing process.
Ask your husband or a family member to help by holding the baby's hand or foot still until you finish filing the fingernails or toenails.
Use a filer to soften and smooth out the edges of the nails.
If you accidentally cut your baby's skin, gently squeeze the finger or the toe with a tissue. You can also apply cream on the wound but leave it uncovered.
